Eligible taxpayers have immediate access to the settlement proposal, with the exact amount to receive or pay, without any additional bureaucracy. Automatic IRS is also a more accessible solution for those who have greater difficulties accessing the internet, as the process is simplified to the maximum and does not require any manual filling. > "Eligible taxpayers have immediate access to the settlement proposal - no filling, no surprises, with the refund arriving faster." In 2026, there is a relevant update: taxpayers covered by **IRS Jovem** (Youth IRS) are now eligible for automatic IRS, with the pre-filled declaration including information reported to the Tax Authority - including various tax deductions. ## Who qualifies for automatic IRS in 2026? Eligible taxpayers must meet **all conditions below** and must not fall under any exclusion situations. ### ✅ Eligibility conditions - Employment income (Category A) - Pensions (Category H) - Service income (Category B, except "Other service providers"), under the simplified regime, with all invoices issued through the Tax Portal - Income taxed at withholding rates, without the option of aggregation - Income obtained only in Portugal, by residents throughout the year (excluding non-habitual residents) - Tax benefits from donations, PPR or accounts managed under the public capitalization regime ### ❌ Exclusion situations - Payment of alimony - Deductions related to ascendants - Need to restore tax benefit values - Disability deductions - Deductions for international double taxation - Deductions under AIMI - Outstanding tax debts as of December 31, 2025 For married or common-law taxpayers, a provisional declaration is available for each taxation regime: joint or separate. ## How to check if you're covered? To verify, simply access the **Tax Portal** with your identification password. If there is no direct shortcut to IRS on the home screen, look in **"All Services" → "IRS" → "Automatic IRS"**.
